China Visa Guide for Nigerian Passport Holders: Everything You Need to Know in 2026

Getting a Chinese visa as a Nigerian passport holder is straightforward when you know exactly what to prepare. This guide walks you through every document, every step, and every common mistake to avoid.

China has become one of the most visited countries by Nigerian professionals, students, and traders. Yet the visa process stops many people before they even get started. This guide removes that barrier.

The most common visa type for Nigerians travelling to China is the L visa (tourist/business visit) or the X1/X2 visa (student). If you are attending a trade fair like Canton Fair or visiting factories, the L visa is what you need.

Documents you will need: Your Nigerian passport with at least 6 months validity and two blank pages. A completed visa application form (available at the Chinese Embassy website). Two recent passport photos with white background. Proof of accommodation in China — hotel booking or invitation letter from a host. Return flight booking confirmation. Bank statement showing at least 3 months of transactions and sufficient funds. For trade visits: a business invitation letter from your Chinese partner on company letterhead.

Where to apply: Submit your application at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Lagos or Abuja. Lagos centre is located at Plot 1649A, Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island. Book your appointment online at the CVASC Nigeria website before visiting.

Processing time: Standard processing takes 4 working days. Express takes 2–3 days. Rush is same-day or next-day for an additional fee. Always apply at least 2 weeks before your travel date to avoid stress.

Common mistakes to avoid: Do not book non-refundable flights before your visa is approved. Make sure your hotel booking matches your travel dates exactly. Incomplete bank statements are the most common reason for rejection. If your invitation letter is from a Chinese company, ensure it includes the company registration number and official stamp.
